Dragon Boat

The Collingwood Sidelaunchers are the CPC's dragon boat team. We are made up of participants of all ages and abilities. We divide our paddlers into two teams and hold practices on water with our coach on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:45pm-8:00pm (weather permitting) from May until late September. We also offer a more relaxed and social practice without a coach most Sundays from 9:00-10:00am. The two teams will participate in practices, training, and regattas throughout the season.

You may be surprised how your current fitness activities complement your paddling, and vice versa. Our practices will include a dynamic warm-up, technical focus, some cardio and interval work. This develops our skills as a group, and prepares those who wish to race in the regattas we do each season.

To assist in planning coaches sessions, attendance at practice is managed on an APP and participants are asked to post their availability for practices

The club emphasizes good sportsmanship and participation. Regattas are an exciting and engaging way to put skills and sportsmanship together as a team. Regardless of whether you paddle for fun or fitness, or whether you like to race, dragon boat paddling is an excellent way to improve fitness, be outdoors and enjoy the company of like minded-people on Collingwood's historic harbour.

With dragon boat membership, paddlers may also participate in the Open Paddle program which offers the use of SUPs, canoes, kayaks, outrigger canoes and other club boats during the supervised sessions.

New this season we will be offering a Sidelaunchers Orientation program in May for those new to dragon boat, who haven't apddled in a while, or who haven't paddled for the Collingwood Sidelaunchers.  This four week coached session does not require you to become a full member of the Collingwood Paddling Club.  Participants will be taught dragon boat safety, paddling skills, and will be familiarized with the Collingwood Dragon Boat program.  The coach will conduct a skills assessment and make recommendations as to next steps.  As the end of the four weeks we hope you decide to join us as a member of the paddling club and the dragon boat team.

New members are always welcome.

We hope you join our paddle community.

Paddles Up!

NOTE: The full dragon boat programming requires a password for registration, please contact Betty at Sidelaunchdragons@gmail.com for information.

New members should contact Betty at Sidelaunchdragons@gmail.com for details on next steps.
